Our Story

We have been feeding Michigan birds since 1989.

Our story begins in late 80s, when Ernie Kramar opened a store in Commerce to sell specialized blends of seed meant to attract all popular Michigan backyard birds from cardinals to bluejays to sparrows to hummingbirds. The original store was a true paradise for bird lovers, offering just about everything to do with birds but the birds themselves - and attracting incredible customers who are still loyal today. His son Steve continued the tradition, adding eclectic garden and metal decor that everyone driving on Woodward would immediately recognize. The legacy continues in present days with new ownership under the Caverly family, long time loving customers who are very grateful to take the story forward.

Why Choose Us

We provide the best food for your backyard birds.

Throughout the years, our seed blends have maintained high quality and reasonable prices. We are very proud to receive our blends fresh from a local mill every week, and to provide mixes which don't rely on commercial filler grains that birds will not eat. We also make it easy for our customers to feed the birds, through programs like Store & Save, The Jughead Club or the Frequent Feeder Club.

We think Local First.

Not only do we work with local Michigan mills for our bird seeds - we have also been working with local artisans and artists for our bird feeders, houses and decor as well. From a distinguished variety of cedar wood houses and feeders that Michigan craftsmen have been building for decades, to recycled barn wood collections hand-crafted in Illinois, to decay resistant redwood collections from Virginia...from quirky metal art from Michigan to harmonized chimes hand-crafted in Virginia...we are committed to longevity, craftsmanship and uniqueness.

We offer Friendly Expert Advice.

Call us old-fashioned, but we believe in the beauty of talking to each other, live, about our birds and our backyards. Mark has been with us for more than two decades, offering tried & tested advice, and getting to know most customers by name. Diana and Jeremy have been building a wildlife habitat in their backyard - and are always happy to share what they learned along the way, so that you don't repeat some of their mistakes. It's never too early or too late to get a new type of feathered friend to visit your backyard...and we're always happy to help you attract your favorite.

We support communities who love wildlife.

We are proud members and supporters of organizations who are passionate about birds, like Michigan Audubon, The Michigan Bluebird Society, The National Wildlife Federation and more. Sharing is caring - and we believe education and entertainment are both key in enjoying the happiness that comes with our backyard birds.
