Built to Handle Everything Michigan Throws at It!
Whether you’re watching the sunrise over Lake Huron or enjoying a quiet afternoon in the suburbs of Grand Rapids, the Audubon 8-Port Thistle Feeder is a staple for any Michigan backyard. At Backyard Birds, we know our state’s birds are as tough as its people, and this feeder is built to match.
With eight ports, you can host a literal "flock" of finches, providing them a reliable fuel station during our freezing winters and busy nesting seasons.
- Michigan-Tough Materials: This isn’t a flimsy big-box store feeder. The UV-stabilized acrylic won’t turn brittle in a Polar Vortex or fade during a scorching July heatwave.
- The "Eight-Guest" Capacity: Perfect for those mornings when a dozen goldfinches suddenly descend on your yard. The internal baffle keeps the seed flowing to the bottom ports even when the levels get low.
- Weather-Sealed: A snug-fitting green PVC lid keeps our famous Michigan humidity and lake-effect snow out of your expensive Nyjer seed.
🧤 Backyard Birds: Michigan Pro-Tips 🧤
- The "Winter Coat" Confusion: Don’t take your feeders down in October! Michigan’s American Goldfinches don't migrate; they just swap their bright yellow feathers for a duller olive-brown to blend in with our winter landscape. Keep this feeder full through January to help them maintain the high body fat they need to survive 10°F nights.
- The Thistle Shake: Because of Michigan's high humidity, Nyjer seed can occasionally "clump" inside the tube. Every time you walk past, give the feeder a quick shake or a tap to keep the seed loose and flowing toward the ports.
- Squirrel-Proofing Your Station: Our Michigan squirrels are world-class athletes. We recommend mounting this feeder on a pole with a baffle or hanging it at least 10 feet away from any "launchpad" branches or deck railings.
- Spring Cleaning: Our damp Michigan springs are prime time for mold. We suggest cleaning your 8-port feeder every two weeks with a 10% bleach solution to protect your flock from Mycoplasmal conjunctivitis (house finch eye disease), which can spread at crowded feeders during our rainy season.
